LOS ANGELES, July 15 (Our Los Angeles) — Los Angeles 2028 organizers have opened Games-time volunteer applications, starting the search for up to 60,000 people who will help staff the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
LA28 marked the launch on July 14, the start of the two-year countdown to the Games. The committee says its Volunteer Crew will work in eight categories: communications, driving, experience, medical, ceremonies, operations, sport and technology.
What jobs are being offered?
LA28 says some roles will require specialized skills, including medicine and language translation. Most volunteer openings will be in the Los Angeles area, but assignments will also extend to Oklahoma City and soccer venues in New York, Columbus, Nashville, St. Louis, San José and San Diego.
Who can apply?
LA28 says people who already expressed interest will receive an email with next steps, but anyone can apply. The application portal was built in partnership with Deloitte. LA28 also says it will give at least seven days’ notice before the application closes.
Why does LA28 need so many volunteers?
The organizing committee says the 2028 Olympics will run from July 14 to July 30, and the Paralympics from Aug. 15 to Aug. 27. Those Games will make Los Angeles the third city to host three Olympic Games, after 1932 and 1984, and the city’s first Paralympic Games.
In its release, LA28 said, “Every great production needs a crew.” LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover told Reuters that recent World Cup success showed “the power of sport to unite people” and said volunteers will be “a key part of that experience.”
LA28 also has separate community-volunteering opportunities tied to local organizations in Los Angeles, with a focus on sustainability, restoration and the well-being of venue cities, according to the committee.
